Things to Know & FAQs
I ARRIVED A FEW MINUTES LATE TO CLASS, AND THE DOOR WAS LOCKED. WHY IS THAT?
At B-1 Yoga, it's our priority to honor and respect our student’s time. It's often a challenge to devote an hour (or more) to ourselves during the day. Therefore, we promptly begin and end class on time, and we lock the door in between classes for the safety and security of our students who are taking a class. Please show up to class on time (at least 5 - 15 minutes early is ideal), so you can be sure to get all the benefits from your yoga practice!
HOW DOES MY FREE WEEK CALCULATE?
We want you to be able to experience as many classes as you can to get the best understanding of hot yoga and what makes B-1 Yoga different. Your FREE week is 7 consecutive days. If you arrive on Tuesday, you get until the end of day on Monday.
IS YOGA A CARDIOVASCULAR WORKOUT?
No. However, no matter what your level of fitness, you will find some B-1 Yoga classes not only challenging but powerful workouts that will get your heart rate up and can burn some major calories.. All postures combine flexibility, strength, and balance to work the entire body. With patience and dedication, you can lose weight, develop muscle tone, build strength, and become more flexible than with other forms of exercise. Physiologists agree that yoga provides benefits well beyond flexibility and relaxation. Recent research shows that although not cardiovascular in nature yoga can improve lung function and aerobic capacity, according to Yoga Journal.
Please note we do offer some classes that have cardio bursts, weight, or HIIT components and those are described in the class title and descriptions.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE PROGRESS IN MY YOGA PRACTICE?
Each individual will respond differently to yoga, based on a myriad of factors, including age, physical condition, and genetics. We practice the idea of accepting and loving ourselves through every stage of our practice and striving for progress over perfection. Yoga is a lifelong journey on our mats with constant chances for improving and becoming.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE YOGA?
That’s up to you and your goals. Even yoga once a week can be a great addition to your exercise routine and provide several health benefits. Flexibility and balance are two components of fitness that often get overlooked. You may keep adding on more and days as you fall in love with how yoga makes you feel mind, body, and spirit.
WHAT IF I'M NOT THAT FLEXIBLE?
Flexibility is something yoga gives you; you don't have to be flexible to start a yoga practice. Yoga brings flexibility to the body. When you sit a lot during the workday, or when you're engaging in repetitive motion activities, you're shortening your muscles; yoga allows you to lengthen and expand and release toxins that build up during these activities. Everybody has to start somewhere is our philosophy.
WHAT DOES 'NAMASTE' MEAN?
B-1 Yoga instructors commonly will end class with the traditional acknowledgment of "Namasté." This gesture is an expression of appreciation and respect towards another person; acknowledgment of the light in me seeing and honoring the light in you. "Nama" means bow; "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namasté literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."
WHAT DOES 'YOGA' MEAN?
Yoga can be traced back to 5,000 years ago and is a Sanskrit word meaning to join, or yoke; union. Its full meaning is about the union of body, mind, and spirit.

WHAT ARE OUR HOURS?
Class times range from 5:30 am- 8:00 pm. We open the doors to the public 15 minutes before class and close 15-30 minutes after class ends. Please let the instructor know if you plan to shower after class and need more time.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
Fabric that dries quickly and absorbs moisture is your friend in a hot yoga class. Try to avoid wearing anything that is 100 percent cotton, as it will retain sweat and make your clothing heavier. Look for pants, tops, and sports bras made from fabrics popular in sportswear. Keep in mind, you will get sweaty in our heated classes.
Men- Swimming trunks or running shorts make good choices for men in hot yoga classes too. Boxer briefs alone are not acceptable attire and you must have another layer. We ask that you are fully covered with a tank or t-shirt as well. Stay away from cotton and choose T-shirts or tanks made of breathable fabric.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
First time- please arrive 10 or 15 minutes before class. This will give you time to get registered, ask questions you may have, prepare for class, and see our studio. Bring your sense of curiosity and open mind, and prepare to have fun! During your first classes at B-1 Yoga, you will be introduced to different standing and seated asanas (poses or postures), breath practices, and how to put the breath and poses together.
The postures have different physical and emotional effects on the body and each class is carefully sequenced with an emphasis on fundamental alignment intended to build strength and stamina, improve muscle tone, balance and flexibility, relieve stress, build confidence and heal injuries. Props can allow for improved comfort level and deeper understanding of the pose. We use blocks and straps to facilitate learning and make modifications based on each student’s needs and they are available in the studio for you to use.
IS IT OK TO DO YOGA ON MY CYCLE?
We along with "nature" do not recommend that you do any strenuous physical activity during the first 2 days of your cycle. A Yin class or beginner class might be a good option. However, listen to your body and do what feels right for you. We are all different and as we age the experience might change for you.
MY SON/DAUGHTER WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND CLASS WITH ME. IS THIS A POSSIBILITY?
The minimum age required to practice at B-1 Yoga is 16 years of age. Hot Yoga is not recommended for young kids and we want to be mindful. All minors (under 18) must have a parent sign the waiver prior to practicing.
