I ARRIVED A FEW MINUTES LATE TO CLASS AND THE DOOR WAS LOCKED. WHY IS THAT?At B-1 Yoga, it's our priority to honor and respect our student’s time. It's often a challenge to devote an hour (or more) to ourselves during the day. Therefore, we promptly begin and end class on time, and we lock the door in between classes for the safety and security of our students who are taking class. Please show up to class on time (at least 5 - 15 minutes early is ideal) so you can be sure to get all the benefits from your yoga practice!

HOW DOES MY FREE WEEK CALCULATE?
We want you to be able to experience as many classes as you can to get the best understanding of hot yoga and what makes B-1 Yoga different.  Your FREE week is 7 consecutive days.  If you arrive on Tuesday you get until the end of day on Monday.

IS YOGA A CARDIOVASCULAR WORKOUT?
No. However no matter what your level of fitness, you will find B-1 Yoga classes not only challenging, but powerful workouts that will work your heart. All postures combine flexibility, strength and balance to work the entire body. With patience and dedication, you can lose weight, develop muscle tone and strength and become more flexible than with other forms of exercise. Physiologists agree that yoga provides benefits well beyond flexibility and relaxation. Recent research shows that yoga may also improve lung function, strength and aerobic capacity, according to Yoga Journal.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE PROGRESS IN MY YOGA PRACTICE?
Each individual will respond differently to yoga, based on a myriad of factors including age, physical condition and genetics. What is far more important than measuring "progress" is to simply embrace where your practice is, and let go of any arbitrary self-imposed "goals." Yoga is truly a life-long pursuit, one that you can go on exploring as long as you live and never learn all there is to know. Yoga is about the journey, embrace the change you will experience here.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE YOGA?
A successful yoga practice requires discipline, consistency and commitment. To experience the true benefits of a yoga practice, we recommend practicing four to six days per week. A practice of two to three days per week, if consistent, will create transformation over time. Develop the spirit of repetition and dedication in your practice, and you will see results.

WHAT IF I'M NOT THAT FLEXIBLE?
Flexibility is something yoga gives you; you don't have to be flexible to start a yoga practice. Yoga brings flexibility to the body. When you sit a lot during the work day, or when you're engaging in repetitive motion activities, you're shortening your muscles; yoga allows you to lengthen and expand and release toxins that build up during these activities.

Increased flexibility is not yoga's only objective nor its only benefit. The ultimate benefit of yoga - to harmoniously unite body, mind and spirit in a healthful physical practice - can be experienced regardless of whether you're able to easily touch your toes.

WHAT DOES 'NAMASTE' MEAN?
B-1 Yoga instructors commonly will end class with the traditional acknowledgement of "Namasté." This gesture is an acknowledgement of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow; "as" means I; and "te" means you. Therefore, Namasté literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you." This gesture is a deep form of respect.

WHAT DOES 'YOGA' MEAN?

Yoga can be traced back to 5,000 years ago and is a Sanskrit word meaning to join, or yoke; union. Its full meaning is about the union of body, mind and spirit. It also is about the ending of the chatter of the mind, so that the mind can experience stillness, thus a meditative mind can be nurtured.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR CLASS?

Click on the "Class Schedule" tab of our website.  Create an account.  Be sure to fill out all required fields and waiver.  Pick the class you want to come to and sign up.  However if you cannot register or do not like technology, just show up!

WHAT DO I BRING TO CLASS?

For each class you will need a mat, towel, and water.  B-1 Yoga provides all new students with a free mat during your first week only.  We ask that you purchase your own mat if you decide to make yoga a regular activity.  We carry Manduka, Jade, Yoloha (cork mats) and Gaiam yoga mats.  These run $75-$140.  Cheaper mats are ok but some are slippery and difficult to work with.  All Store Merchandise is 20% OFF during your Free Trial Week!

WHAT ARE OUR HOURS?

We open the doors to the public 15 minutes before class and close 20-30 minutes after class.  There are showers and locker rooms for you to get ready.  Please let the instructor know if you plan to shower after class.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Women...choose breathable fabric, but dress light so your skin can do its job by regulating your body temperature. Avoid clothing that restricts movement and cotton fabric that absorbs and holds moisture. We recommend that women wear clothing designed specifically for hot yoga, or running clothes constructed of dri-weave fabric. Women practicing hot yoga often wear workout shorts and a tank top or sport top. Keep in mind that your clothing is likely to be soaked by the time the class is over, so avoid anything that becomes see-through when wet.

Men...Swimming trunks or running shorts make good choices for men in hot yoga classes. If you choose to wear a top, stay away from cotton and choose T-shirts or tanks made of breathable fabric. Experiment with your options to see what clothing choices work best. The best options don't distract you or get in your way during class.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Please arrive 10 or 15 minutes before class.  This will give you time to ask questions you may have, prepare for class, and quietly relax on your mat.  Bring your sense of curiosity an open mind, and prepare to have fun! During your first classes at B-1 Yoga, you will be introduced to different standing and seated asanas (poses or postures).  You will be oriented to the fundamental postures of each pose through repetition. If you commit to practicing on a regular basis, you will learn more about the full expression of each pose and how connecting your breath to postures will better your practice.

The postures have different physical and emotional effects on the body and each class is carefully sequenced with an emphasis on fundamental alignment intended to build strength and stamina, improve muscle tone, balance and flexibility, relieve stress, build confidence and heal injuries. Props can allow for improved comfort level and deeper understanding of the pose.  We use blocks and straps to facilitate learning and make modifications based on each student’s needs and they are available in the studio for you to use.

IS IT OK TO DO YOGA ON MY CYCLE?

We along with "nature" do NOT recommend that you do any strenuous physical activity during the first 2 days of your cycle.  A Yin class might be good.  However listen to your body and know why you may experience resistance with any activity during this time.

MY SON/DAUGHTER WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND CLASS WITH ME. IS THIS A POSSIBILITY?

The minimum age required to practice at B-1 Yoga is 16 years of age.  Hot Yoga is not good for young kids and especially with hormonal changes. All  minors (under 18) must have a parent signed waiver prior to practicing (the parent or guardian must sign the waiver in person at a studio).
