Krissy Mueller

Owner & Instructor

Krissy is a certified 95-hour kids yoga instructor and an E-RYT 500 hour certified adult yoga instructor. She has been a personal trainer and taught group fitness classes for 20 years and loves bringing health and wellness into the lives of everyone she can.

Yoga became a more regular part of her practice over 8 years ago and it changed every aspect of her life. Knowing what yoga did for her own well-being and seeing what it has done for her kids, made Krissy passionate about wanting to share it with others on a more regular basis. After a few years as studio manager and instructing many classes at B1, she had the privilege of purchasing B1 from former owner Cally Burkle. Her first year of owning the studio has been
amazing and she can't wait to see how she can continue to grow yoga in her community!

When not teaching kids yoga with Challenge to Change or hanging at the yoga studio, you will find her with her adjuncting at University of Dubuque, spending time with her 3 kids, husband, and many pets, hanging with friends, saving animals, and enjoying the outdoors.

  • Cally burkle

My name is Cally Burkle, instructor here at B-1 Yoga.

    #fhtogglels/Read Full Bio + /Close - /ib

I’m originally from Dyersville, and as a young child did my first headstands, handstands, and backbends at the Debbie Moser School of Dance. I practiced, competed, and performed gymnastics up until high school. After graduating from Beckman High School in 1991 and attended the University of Iowa, where I received a liberal arts degree. From there I eventually landed in Chicago where I lived for 10 years with a career as a real estate agent.

In 2006, I began practicing yoga to supplement my running routine. I found myself intrigued by the shift in my performance and strength while practicing yoga. I took my first Bikram (hot yoga) class while traveling to visit a college friend in Phoenix, Arizona (of all places!). I fell in LOVE! I came home and started practicing the same 90-minute 105 degrees structured class whenever I could find the time. In 2008, I attended a Core Power Yoga class and found the vinyasa hot yoga experience my new love and almost daily routine.

In the Spring of 2013, after coming back from a rejuvenating retreat in Koh Samui, Thailand, I decided to leave my fast-paced life in Chicago and return to Iowa to teach yoga. I enrolled and completed a 200-hour power yoga teacher training class at Core Power Yoga. Shortly after, I purchased the building at 185 Main Street in Dubuque and opened B-1 Yoga in April of 2014. I recently sold the business to Krissy so I could have more time to focus on my other business and have more time to hang with family and friends.

My other business is Gordon’s Tuxedos & Suits, located next store to the studio. I purchased both the business and building last March. It’s been an exciting year learning the tuxedo and suit rental business. If you need a tuxedo or suit, contact me for a 10% off discount on your next rental.

Megan began her yoga journey at the encouragement of a good friend and fellow musician in 2016 at B-1.

A longtime opera singer, she noticed an almost immediate shift in her vocal performance and, with piqued curiosity, decided to explore this new dynamic and its correlation to her instrument.

However, the more time she spent continuing to grow in her yoga practice, Megan also came to know her time on her mat as an opportunity to turn inward, find her inner knowing and embrace stillness away from the busyness of her day-to-day life.

While COVID-19 put the kibosh on all of her scheduled performances in 2020, it also created space for her to complete her Yoga Teacher Training. At B-1, Megan can be found teaching traditional vinyasa classes, as well as helping yogis settle into a deep and meditative candlelight yin practice.

When not on her mat or getting back on stage, she is the Features Editor at the Telegraph Herald, where she covers all things arts and culture, as well as oversees Her magazine.

Hello! My name is Tessa and I am super excited to be a new yoga teacher at B-1. I am from and live in Dubuque working in my families business.

    #fhtogglels/Read Full Bio + /Close - /ib

My favorites in life besides yoga are being with my family and friends, outdoors doing anything, cooking, traveling, and my puppy, Lola. My yoga practice started early last year and it quickly became a necessity and passion. While never in my plan when I started practicing, the opportunity to learn how to teach the practice I became so passionate about was a natural next step, especially with the amazing 200 RYT training B-1 offers. I love a sweaty vinyasa style class paired with some great restorative poses, mimicking the balance of movement and stillness in everyday life. My goal in class is to connect the mind and body through movement, balance, stretching, and of course, heat. Add in some oils for aromatherapy and we arrive at the class I’m teaching. Come practice with me at the 4:30 PM Aroma flow every other Wednesday. Can’t wait to see you there!

  • Laci Hoffmann

Throughout my adult life I have always been drawn to the practice of yoga. I love the fluidity of a beautifully sequenced vinyasa class and how when paired with the breath, the practice feels like dancing.

    #fhtogglels/Read Full Bio + /Close - /ib

I started attending yoga class in college as a way to increase my flexibility because as a collegiate dancer, I didn't have the flexibility and extension that I felt like I needed.  Fast forward a few years and I still found myself leaning toward yoga as a way to balance out my physical lifestyle as a fitness professional.  I pursued my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate in 2014 as a way to deepen my knowledge of the practice and have the ability to teach classes, but I walked away from my first yoga teacher training with so much more than pose sequencing.  I learned authenticity, abundance, and friendship at a pivotal time when I had also become a new mother.  The entire experience was beautiful and impactful.  And yet, I didn't hold on tightly to my yoga practice and overtime I was rarely on my mat and generally consumed by the patterns of motherhood and daily life.   But like so many people, in 2020 my daily life dramatically changed because of the covid pandemic and after suffering and recovering from a tightness induced running injury, the yoga practice was once again drawing me back in.  However, this time was different because I was different.

For me, yoga has become the perfect ritual.  I come to my mat everyday because the practice grounds me and has changed me both mentally and physically.  I practice, study, and teach in the style of Awakening Yoga,  a modern yoga system designed to honor the ritual of traditional yoga with a practical and functional approach to asana.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share the style of yoga that continues to fill me up with gratitude and challenge my ego.  I hope my classes inspire a love of the ritual with a curiosity for the possible.

Outside of teaching yoga classes, I work for Challenge to Change as a yoga in the schools educator and studio ambassador. I  spend most of my free time with my husband and two sons chasing little adventures and pursuing many different seasonal interests.
